Charlotte, NC (August 27, 2011) – the National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) has been recognized with the National Partnership Award by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary at its 2011 National Conference, held in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary’s Recreational Boating Safety Partnership Award is given to an organization or group in recognition of their safe boating efforts. Specifically, the National Safe Boating Council was recognized for its outstanding, sustained financial support and promotion of the Recreational Boating Safety Program in the saving of lives through education and outreach.

The NSBC’s commitment in promoting recreational boating safety has been promoted through the “Wear It!” campaign message and “Ready, Set, Inflate!” outreach and education effort. These initiatives focus on the importance of life jacket wear, delivering this message to hundreds of thousands of boaters of all ages throughout the United States. Ultimately, these efforts are helping to improve awareness and education of recreational boaters as well as saving countless lives in the process. Furthermore, the NSBC has provided numerous educational materials, such as DVD’s, brochures, and Public Service Announcements, designed to have significant impact on boater education and safety.

“The National Safe Boating Council is humbled to be recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for its education and outreach efforts” remarks Virgil Chambers, executive director of the NSBC. “While the recognition is truly heartening, the partnership the NSBC has with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in delivering safe boating messages such as “Wear It!” continues to be the greatest reward of all.”

Life jacket wear by every boater is the leading goal of the North American Safe Boating Campaign (“Wear It!”). The North American Safe Boating Campaign unites the efforts of a wide variety of boating safety advocates, including NASBLA, the Canadian Safe Boating Council and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. The campaign is produced under a grant from the Sports Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund, administered by the U.S. Coast Guard.
