National Safe Boating Council Wins Three Hermes Creative Awards in 2012
Two submissions were given the top honor of Platinum Awards

DALLAS (July 11, 2012) — Hermes Creative Awards announced winners for the 2012 international awards competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing, and design of traditional and emerging media.

The National Safe Boating Council received three awards in 2012. The organization was recognized as a Platinum Winner for its Modern History of Recreational Boating Safety book and its Wear It! Campaign and was recognized as a Gold Winner for its Life Jacket Safety Dance.

Hermes Creative Awards recognize outstanding work in the industry while promoting philanthropic nature of marketing and communication professionals. There were over 4,700 entries from throughout the United States, Canada, and several other countries in the Hermes Creative Awards 2012.

The National Safe Boating Council was recognized as a Platinum winner for its Modern History of Recreational Boating Safety book. The NSBC coordinated with publishing and design firm Within Reach Inc. for the design and production for the book. The NSBC’s Wear It! Campaign was also awarded as a Platinum winner in the “Communication Campaign” category in its efforts to increase awareness of boating safety. Together with their agency partner, Paul Werth Associates, the NSBC implemented a media relations campaign aimed at reinforcing the Wear It! campaign theme – wear your life jacket at all times on the water. The NSBC was also identified as a Gold Winner for its Life Jacket Safety Dance as part of the Social Media/Game or Contest Category. Each year, hundreds drown while boating – many could have been saved with a life jacket. During the 2011 boating season, approximately 84 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets. The National Safe Boating Council utilizes a variety of efforts in its mission to promote a safer recreational boating experience through education, outreach, and training.

“The National Safe Council is thrilled to be recognized with three Hermes Creative Awards in three separate categories,” comments Virgil Chambers, executive director of the NSBC. “We work hard to promote safer boating every day through a variety of outlets and appreciate the acknowledgement.”

Hermes Creative Awards is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (www.amcpros.com). As part of its mission, AMCP fosters and supports the efforts of creative professionals who contribute their unique talents to public service and charitable organizations. Winners were selected from 179 categories grouped under advertising, publications, marketing/branding, integrated marketing, public relations/communications, electronic media, and pro bono. About 15% of the entries won the Platinum Award – the organization’s top honor. Nineteen percent won the Gold Award.
