Yellowknife, Canada (September 30, 2016) – The Canadian Safe Boating Council (CSBC) and National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) gathered at the 2016 CSBC Symposium to bring greater attention to boating safety issues currently being addressed throughout North America and to show their shared commitment to these issues and the promotion of safer boating with a signing of the CSBC – NSBC Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on September 25, 2016.
CSBC Chair John Gullick joined NSBC Chair Richard Moore in the signing of the MOU to address current boating safety trends and ways the two organizations can work together to bring greater awareness and change to the recreational boating safety community. The CSBC and the NSBC have greatly benefitted from working closely together since the original MOU was signed in September 2005. The updated MOU reflects boating safety trends and governance changes since that time. In it, the two organizations have outlined their approach to share each other’s resources and materials, provide support on each organization’s conference, and work together
on messaging related to the harmonized North American life jacket standards.
John Gullick, the CSBC Chair, says: “The MOU acts as a way for the two organizations to leverage their individual missions and strategic goals, while recognizing the value of the partnership between the CSBC and NSBC. This partnership has helped to advance boating safety messaging so well over the years.”
“Our partnership with the CSBC has continued to strengthen through the years, as is evident from the MOU,” remarks Richard Moore, NSBC Chair. “We’re excited to continue the course with our northern partner to ensure that boaters are offered consistent, clear messaging on both sides of the border.”

The MOU is just one of many ways the two organizations have committed to working together.
The chairs of each organization are represented on the other organization’s Board of Directors and are members of the other’s organization. This gives the CSBC and NSBC the opportunity to coordinate safe boating efforts on a grander scale to reach over 12 million boaters in Canada and 87 million boaters in the U.S.
