National Safe Boating Council Promotes Welcome to the Water on National Marina Day

Welcome to the Water supports recreational boating by attracting individuals to local marinas

Manassas, VA (June 1, 2016) – As part of a nationwide observance, the National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) is encouraging individuals to partake in Welcome to the Water on June 11, 2016 as part of National Marina Day. The NSBC encourages local boaters and non-boaters to spend a Saturday at a marina near them hosting an event for Welcome to the Water for a day of
leisure on the water.

“Welcome to the Water on National Marina Day is a celebration of boating,” said Rachel Johnson, NSBC Executive Director. “As families search for fun outdoor activities that everyone can enjoy, and friends look for a way to gather and create lasting memories, we want to encourage them to give boating a try. We hope people from across the nation will visit one of the
many marinas hosting an event for National Marina Day, learn about boating, and enjoy the events they have planned.”

Numerous marinas in the United States will host events to encourage people to spend more time outdoors. Currently, there are events registered in over 30 states as well as international support from Canada. Find a list of all the currently registered events or register an event for Welcome to
the Water.

“Now, more than ever, Americans need safe, family-friendly ways to spend their leisure time,” continued Johnson. “Welcome to the Water on National Marina Day introduces boating as just such an activity and is a reminder that marinas around the country are a local, welcoming gateway to on-the-water fun.”

The NSBC is proud to promote Welcome to the Water on National Marina Day as we believe it is important to express the benefits of boating as well as safe boating practices. Mark June 11, 2016 on your calendar and find an event near you. If you want to host an event as a marina, you can gain access to the resource kit by visiting www.nationalmarinaday.org.
