National Safe Boating Council Instructor Appointed to Prestigious Japan Coast Guard Advisory Group for Water Safety

On November 29 (Tue). 2016, Mr. Hiroshi Yamaoka a Maris foundation staff member was present at the Japan Coast Guard meeting. He provided a presentation on the benefits of standardization and educational outreach. As a Personal Water Craft (PWC) subject matter expert (SME), he was selected as one of four elect expert members whom were appointed to the newly formed “Ocean Safety Promotion Advisor”.

Mr. Yamaoka is a lead instructor for K38 and a national instructor for K38 Japan regarding personal water craft. He is a premiere subject matter expert regarding the best practices, maintenance and program development in Japan, working alongside a qualified cadre of instructors.

He has been a dedicated attendee of the annual International Boating and Water Safety Summit along with Marine Sports Foundation and K38 Japan as well as a past presenter. He is also a certified NASBLA boating instructor and fluent in both his native Japanese and English.

“Ocean Safety Promotion Adviser” is the first initiative introduced at the Maritime Safety Promotion Headquarters of the Japan Coast Guard (JCG). The JCG solicited experts with a thorough knowledge base to address diversifying marine recreational needs as a ‘Marine Safety Promotion Advisor’ panel member.

This is a new program initiative that will develop effective water safety education, training and standards for the enhancement of the best practices and enforcement policies for educators, law enforcement, recreational and occupational use.
