The Power of Behavior Change Marketing

Behavior change marketing is an effective tool for promoting boating safety: utilizing real-life examples and personal experiences to influence individuals to take a boating safety course, wear a life jacket, and other responsible boating behaviors.

The NSBC has learned through observation and surveys that fear-based marketing just doesn’t have the same power. Showing boaters wearing different life-saving products while having fun is the more effective approach.

To encourage growth in recreational boating and water activities, the Safe Boating Campaign recommends these boating and water safety media best practices to support a culture of safety and encourage those enjoying the water to have the right safety gear.

Join us in implementing these media best practices in your marketing and outreach efforts.

Waves of Hope

Waves of Hope is a coalition of forever-changed families and friends impacted by boating and open water tragedies.

We are the “why” behind the “what” of boating and water safety. That one moment that changed our families forever could have been prevented. A life jacket. A propeller guard. An aware boat operator. An engine cut-off switch. We want to share our stories to educate others about boating and water safety, so our stories never become another family’s story.
