Encouraging behavior change, specific responses to high-risk groups, education and training opportunities, and affirming safe boating behaviors and attitudes are just some of the engaging topics of this dynamic session.

The U.S. Coast Guard and the National Safe Boating Council are honored to host representatives from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Japan, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom at IBWSS.

USCG Office of Boating Safety Staff Become NSBC Instructors

The NSBC was proud to host a NSBC Instructor Certification course for staff members of the U.S. Coast Guard Office of Boating Safety in St. Petersburg, FL from January 24 - 26.

The NSBC Instructor Certification course is a train-the-trainer model. USCG BSX staff trained with NSBC Certified Instructor Trainers Chris Day, Chris Edmonston, and Peg Phillips to learn the Boat Control On-Water Training curriculum. The training program progresses from close quarter maneuvers at idle speed, to maneuvers in displacement mode, and advanced open water maneuvers on the final day. Each student had to successfully demonstrate each skill at the helm, under the direction of the Instructor Trainer, then demonstrate that they can teach the curriculum to each other.

Join us in welcoming Seth Wagner, Jeff Decker, Cal Fless, Joshua Weidman, Capt. Amy Beach, and Capt. Troy Glendale as NSBC Certified Instructors!
