The American Canoe Association is hosting a virtual zoom presentation introducing Smart Start for Safe Paddling — a new collection of educational resources designed to help beginner paddlers build safe habits from their very first time on the water.
This suite of resources was developed to support your efforts in boating safety education by providing easy-to-use tools for outreach, instruction, and community engagement. The program includes a free online course, comprehensive textbook, student activity workbook, presentation slides, infographics, videos, and field-ready lesson materials — all tailored to be flexible, inclusive, and aligned with the national safety priorities and standards published by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The Smart Start for Safe Paddling program is intended to serve as a foundational resource for your paddling safety and education programs; we invite you to use the program in any way that complements the goals of your organization and needs of your audience; you need not be an ACA member, instructor, nor have taken any ACA courses to use these resources.
Whether you oversee paddlesports programming, safety outreach, or education initiatives, we’d love to share this new resource with you and hear your feedback. Please invite any of your colleagues to join!
