A Message from the Executive Director
As we reach the midpoint of another exciting summer here at the Chapman School of Seamanship, I’m proud to share the continued momentum and meaningful progress happening across our campus and programs. This month, we celebrate a major milestone -128 students have already completed our Youth Basic Boating Course, earning their Florida Safe Boater Course Card. It’s a powerful reminder that boating education saves lives and opens doors.
We’re also expanding our commitment to environmental stewardship, thanks to a new partnership with the Hobe Sound Nature Center, which brings local environmental education into our youth curriculum. Plus, we’re taking steps toward sustainability with the use of reef-safe sunscreen from Stream2Sea (use code CHAPMANSCHOOL at checkout for 10% off).
In this issue, we spotlight Renee Booth, our Director of Development, whose leadership is helping secure resources that support student success. You’ll also find a graduate highlight from our Yacht and Small Craft Survey program, tech and safety tips from Master Technician Shane Bowlin, and an essential refresher on navigation rules – Meeting, Crossing, and Overtaking.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to announce the launch of three new technical training courses this fall, including ABYC Marine Service Technology and two NMEA certifications, expanding workforce development opportunities across the marine industry.
Lastly, we’re proud to introduce the Alumni Legacy Fund, a new initiative to help youth, veterans, and aspiring mariners access life-changing training at Chapman. Your support truly helps shape the next generation of safe, skilled mariners.
Thank you for being part of the Chapman journey.
Warm Regards,
Jim Allen
Executive Director
