National Safe Boating Week

Thank you to our partners for making a big splash for National Safe Boating Week! The week was packed with local events, vessel safety checks, on-water trainings, media interviews, and more. And, it was great to receive many state and local proclamations by public officials recognizing the importance of boating safety.

If you'd like to see your local outreach on behalf of the Safe Boating Campaign featured on our blog or social media, drop us an email at outreach@safeboatingcouncil.org. We'd love to share what you're doing to make an impact in your community. Be sure to follow us on social media @boatingcampaign (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) for more updates.

Take a moment to watch Hunter Bland share about the Safe Boating Campaign and his passion for boating safety with FOX Weather during National Safe Boating Week.

Use an Engine Cut-Off Switch

The NSBC's Get Connected campaign encourages boaters to use an engine cut-off switch (ECOS) every time they go powerboating to keep them and others safe on the water.

An engine cut-off switch attaches to the boat operator and cuts power to the boat’s engine if the operator is displaced from the helm. It also may be activated manually if needed in an emergency. An ECOS may be a lanyard attached to the engine switch, or a boat may be equipped with wireless technology that resembles a key fob or wristband.

Operation Dry Water

Law enforcement officers across the country will be on heightened alert for those in violation of boating under the influence laws as part of the annual Operation Dry Water weekend, July 2 – 4, 2022. Operation Dry Water is a year-round boating under the influence awareness and enforcement campaign focused on reducing the number of alcohol- and drug-related incidents and fatalities.

The U.S. Coast Guard, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies, recreational boating safety advocates, and the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) are gearing up to spread awareness and prevent tragedies related to boating under the influence (BUI). The National Safe Boating Council is proud to support these partners during this important outreach effort. Learn more.
