NSBC Member Connection

Each month the National Safe Boating Council staff will share news and updates about our programs, industry happenings, and member spotlights. Please contact us with any comments or questions. We’d love to hear from you!

Building Partnerships for #safeboating

To strengthen our commitment to be a catalyst for recreational boating safety, NSBC continued to meet with members to grow stronger partnerships and explore new opportunities. It's incredible the positive impact our shared goal of making boating safer is having throughout the RBS community.

Mustang Survival shared a behind-the-scenes look at the innovative manufacturing of water rescue dry suits and life jackets at their Jacksonville, Florida facility with NSBC Board Chair Chris Stec and NSBC Executive Director Peg Phillips. Thank you, Joe Shane, for the insightful tour!

ACR Electronics shared with us how their emergency beacons are "Made in Florida by Floridans" with one purpose in mind - saving lives. Mikele D'Arcangelo walked NSBC's Peg Phillips and Yvonne Pentz through the manufacturing process. Thank you for this opportunity.

Behind the Scenes: Safe Boating Campaign

Our Safe Boating Campaign made a big splash in Ft. Lauderdale during the month of June with the production of a new public service announcement and a strategic planning meeting of the campaign's Life Jacket Wear Rate Tiger Team. Sneak peaks of the PSA will be available this fall, and the restructured Tiger Team serves as advisory group of the Safe Boating Campaign focused on increasing life jacket wear rates.

Pilot Powerboating Course for Teens

Powerboat 101: Be A Skipper is the National Safe Boating Council's latest on-water pilot training course for teens interested in learning on-water powerboating skills and maneuvers. In partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard and BoatU.S. Foundation, 'Be A Skipper' is focused on teaching teens valuable safe boating lessons and preparing the next generation of junior captains. Please note, it is not a certification program. Stay tuned for more information!

Summer Conferences + Travels

Our team had a busy June with summer conferences, exploring, partnering, learning - and we squeezed in some fun on the water.

National Association of Boating Law Administrators' annual Leadership Academy was an incredible experience of learning more about recreational boating for NSBC Executive Director Peg Phillips with a great group of recreational boating safety peers in Lexington, Kentucky.

International Boating and Water Safety Summit will be held in Jacksonville, Florida from March 24-27, 2019. NSBC Board Chair Chris Stec and NSBC Executive Director Peg Phillips met with event coordinators at the Omni Jacksonville Hotel and began planning for an engaging 2019 IBWSS set to explore "The Future of Recreational Boating."

Life Jacket Association held their annual conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida taking a deep dive into life jacket standards, outreach campaigns, and research. NSBC's Peg Phillips and Yvonne Pentz presented about the Safe Boating Campaign and shared about partnership opportunities with the NSBC. And, of course, made time to meet some alligators up close on an airboat tour of the Everglades!
