International Boating and Water Safety Summit

It was wonderful seeing many of you at the International Boating and Water Safety Summit in Jacksonville, FL! We encourage you to take all that you have learned back into your local communities, stay in touch with new friends, and continue to build partnerships to advance recreational boating and water safety. Please take a few minutes to share your feedback.

General Membership Meeting

The NSBC General Membership Meeting was held in conjunction with IBWSS on Sunday, March 24, 2019. We value this opportunity to celebrate our shared mission to advance recreational boating safety and provide you with important updates about the NSBC.

Chris Stec, NSBC Board Chair, shared about the development of the NSBC 2020-2024 Strategic Plan, and the staff provided updates on programs. And, of course, there was some fun with a trivia game with members. Please review the meeting minutes and email any updates or comments to dcorish@safeboatingcouncil.org. The next General Membership Meeting will be at the NASBLA Annual Conference on September, 29, 2019 in Anchorage, AK.

The Future of Recreational Boating

From a hands-on workshop about behavior-change marketing to putting on a VR headset to participate in a search and rescue virtual training, #IBWSS19 offered more than 60 sessions and an Expo Hall for attendees to explore "The Future of Recreational Boating." Take a look at the program and session presentation decks. Save the Date for #IBWSS20 to be announced soon - you won't want to miss out!

Award Recipients

The NSBC honored Thom Dammrich with a Boating Safety Hall of Fame Award, our most prestigious award recognizing individuals who provide vital leadership and boating safety support throughout their career. Dammrich has been at the helm of National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) for nearly 20 years building collaboration across the recreational boating and broader outdoor communities. At the IBWSS Awards Luncheon, we recognized nearly 20 individuals and groups for various boating safety efforts. Browse the 2019 IBWSS Communication Award recipients.

Saving Lives Through Outreach + Partnership

The NSBC team has been busy meeting with partners around the nation to collaborate to advance boating safety. On April 11, Diane met with the Washington DC Police Harbor Patrol to discuss boating safety initiatives for the summer boating season, and of course, a ride-along on the Potomac River. On April 12, Peg and Yvonne met with the Peoria Fire Department in Arizona to discuss collaboration and training opportunities.

Wear Your Life Jacket To Work Day

Are you ready for Wear Your Life Jacket To Work Day? No matter your profession, grab your life jacket and wear it to work to raise awareness of the importance of always wearing a life jacket while boating. We can't wait to see all the fun and exciting ways you celebrate this year. Please use #lifejacket2work when posting on social media so we can engage with your organization (template social media posts available). We are also asking organizational partners of the Safe Boating Campaign to register on the Become a Partner page. This way, other groups and individuals in your community can coordinate with you on boating safety efforts. Don't forget to check out the free digital resources we have available to assist with public outreach efforts throughout the entire year.
