The Ohio Department of Natural Resource– Division of Watercraft
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources - Division of Watercraft in its
continuing effort to provide Ohio’s boaters with the safest boating
environment possible implemented the “Get on Board with a Sober Boater”
awareness program in 2009.
The overall goal of the campaign is to increase boating safety by
providing an alcohol and drug free environment for all who boat on
Ohio’s waters; to educate the public and increase awareness of the
relative risk associated with alcohol/drug use while boating; and to
educate the community about dangers of alcohol and drug use in the
boating environment.

Under the Influence: It’s Your Choice is designed as a
teaching aid for water safety talks to demonstrate the effects
of improper use of alcohol. The three-part Boating Under the
Influence: It’s Your Choice presentation includes a
17-minute video, a question and answer session, and a hands-on
demonstration. The program may be adapted to fit specific needs
of the presenter based on time constraints, available equipment,
and the age or experience of the group.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s BUI Simulator and
Boating Education Trailer has been used throughout the state with great
success. The number of people that have been exposed to the simulator and the
personal contacts between officers and boaters are in the thousands. The
trailer’s high visibility, simple design, and multifunctional use has made it an
great tool for educating the boating public about boating safety and boating
under the influence.
