The Ohio Department of Natural Resource– Division of Watercraft

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources - Division of Watercraft in its continuing effort to provide Ohio’s boaters with the safest boating environment possible implemented the “Get on Board with a Sober Boater” awareness program in 2009.

The overall goal of the campaign is to increase boating safety by providing an alcohol and drug free environment for all who boat on Ohio’s waters; to educate the public and increase awareness of the relative risk associated with alcohol/drug use while boating; and to educate the community about dangers of alcohol and drug use in the boating environment.

2009 - Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks

Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks’ Boating Under the Influence: It’s Your Choice is designed as a teaching aid for water safety talks to demonstrate the effects of improper use of alcohol.  The three-part Boating Under the Influence: It’s Your Choice presentation includes a 17-minute video, a question and answer session, and a hands-on demonstration.  The program may be adapted to fit specific needs of the presenter based on time constraints, available equipment, and the age or experience of the group.


2008 -
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s BUI Simulator and Boating Education Trailer has been used throughout the state with great success.  The number of people that have been exposed to the simulator and the personal contacts between officers and boaters are in the thousands. The trailer’s high visibility, simple design, and multifunctional use has made it an great tool for educating the boating public about boating safety and boating under the influence.
